Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church has been partnering with Amazing Grace Lutheran Church in Glendale, Arizona; in support of their Jail Ministry Program. This unique program brings church services directly to the inmates. Amazing Grace Lutheran Church is truly amazing as they have brought tremendous spiritual growth to the men and women who have in turn formed prayer circles and Bible studies, bringing others to know Christ.
Women from SOTH have participated in the program by writing to inmates and praying for them as well as providing needed clothing and hygiene items. Some volunteers have ministered in the jail and have helped to coordinate medical and dental treatment.
Besides witnessing and showing compassion for the inmates, there is a real need to help women transition from incarceration, back into the real world. When the women are released from the Lower Buckeye jail, there is nothing but a field across the street and a Circle K on the corner, a few blocks from the jail. Sometimes the women are released in the middle of the night and they have no place to go. Pastor Robyn Bezanson has made it her mission to find safe housing for these women. Once they are in a safe place; they can receive spiritual counseling, employment assistance, housing assistance, and other services that will help them transition back into a productive life outside of prison.
Through this prison ministry, there is hope for those who have lived without hope. It is Pastor Robyn’s dream, to be able to open her own halfway house where more coordinated support can be provided in a safe and secure environment. Currently, Pastor Robyn is trying to find funding which will allow her to purchase a home that could be used as a halfway home. If you have an interest in helping to support the work of prison ministry, whether as a volunteer, or providing financial support; please contact Pastor Robyn Bezanson at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at 602-320-4767.
